Plasma Cutter VS Oxy Acet? (Read this before you decide).
So , what should I buy, A Plasma Cutter or stick with Oxy and Acetylene?
This is a question we get asked quite a lot!
It all boils down to what you are going to be using it for. ,
To help make your decision easier, we have listed the pro’s and con’s of each.
OXY/FUEL
Pros
The best pick if you’re looking for heat! Nothing comes close for bending and removing rusted on parts.
This machine can cut thicker material easier, over 25mm.
Requires no power therefore more mobile.
Cons
Not as good for cutting sheet metal, high chance of distortion due to heat and the way in which it does the cutting.
Can only cut carbon steels for example mild steel and wear plate.
PLASMA CUTTERS
Pros
Cleaner faster cutting, low distortion and low slag.
Cuts any metal that conducts electricity, like aluminium and copper
Cons
Can be expensive for consumables, depending on which models
Needs power to run.
One is not better than the other, they are just better in their own ways at different things.
For light fabrication work, its plasma for me. But Oxy Acet is hard to go past as an all rounder.
Or you could just buy both..
